04 May 2008 - Government Warning on Driver Fatigue:
One in five of all crashes on our major roads are caused by tired drivers, however research shows that many drivers are failing to recognise even the most basic of signs - such as the common yawn! - that it is time to take a break.
The Governments latest road safety campaign to tackle driver fatigue features acting star Joseph Fiennes, and sets out to remind motorists of the dangers of driving while tired.
The Road Safety Minister, John Fitzpatrick, said, "People who drive for work are particularly at risk but there are simple steps we can all take to make our journeys safer. Plan regular stops into a long trip and if you find yourself yawning pull over and take a break - this could make the differenve between life and death."
01 May 2008 - Occupational Drivers are Deliberate Risk Takers:
A study of occupational drivers by psychologists has revealed that many of their road crashes are linked to deliberate risk taking and inattention. Research conducted at Swansea University, into predicting risk in occupational drivers, shows that four main groups - delivery drivers, HGV, Occupational Drivers and Sales Representatives - from a variety of organisations took part in the study which found deliberate risk taking and inattention to be the most important causes of crashes
